European Council President Donald Tusk says the European Union must prepare for the worst due to the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump, as a trade war looms between Washington and Brussels.
In a letter to EU leaders Wednesday, Tusk wrote that “trans-Atlantic relations are under immense pressure due to the policies of President Trump.”
Tusk, who chairs a two-day summit of EU leaders in Brussels starting Thursday, said that “unfortunately, the divisions go beyond trade.”
He wrote: “It is my belief that, while hoping for the best, we must be ready to prepare our Union for worst-case scenarios.”
Earlier this month, Trump slapped tariffs on imports of European steel and aluminum. The EU responded with “rebalancing measures” that hit around 2.8 billion euros ($3.25 billion) worth of U.S. products.

Well, Trump is bad news for the EU, if he knew that one of the overlapping EU/NATO members violated the NATO Counterterrorism Protocols at best, and is a state sponsor of terrorism at worst:

I’m baffled,
Who remembers Trump telling the UK after the Brexit vote, DON’T WORRY, WE’RE GOING TO DO BUSINESS, ETC.,
The UK is America’s biggest ally, yet the US had slapped them in their face, astonishing
Mr. Trump is managing to alienate most of our allies, while being friendly to totalitarian governments like Russia and North Korea. He’s also getting us into a trade war which will not have a good ending for us.
He made an excellent TV personality, but TV episodes don’t have real-life consequences. People remember what you say even after the episode is over. He doesn’t realize that playing to his base is having effects outside the country.
You hire a rookie, you get rookie performance, especially if the rookie thinks he knows it all already.
