As part of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s Safety Program beginning March 1st, 2008 the speed limit between Mileposts 80 and 100 on the Garden State Parkway will be reduced to 55mph.
In addition, motorists should be aware that effective March 1st an amended law makes the use of a wireless hand-held-telephone or electronic communication device by the operator of a moving motor vehicle a primary offense (as previously reported HERE on YWN)
On November 2, 2007, Governor Jon S. Corzine signed into law a bill which amends N.J.S.A. 39:4-97.3 to make the use of a wireless hand-held telephone or electronic communication device by the operator of a moving motor vehicle a primary offense.
NOTE: It is a primary offense for a motorist to talk or text message with a hand-held wireless telephone or electronic communication device while driving.
Use of a hand-held wireless telephone or electronic communication device includes, but is not limited to:
Talking or listening to another person.
Text messaging or sending an electronic message.
The fine for violating this statute is $100.00; no points will be assessed for the offense.
The operator of a motor vehicle may use a hand-held wireless telephone while driving with one hand on the steering wheel only if:
The operator has reason to fear for his/her life or safety, or believes that a criminal act may be perpetrated against him/herself or another person.
The operator is using this device to report to appropriate authorities: a fire; traffic crash; serious road hazard; medical or hazardous material emergency; or another motorist who is driving in a reckless, careless or otherwise unsafe manner or who appears to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The amended law takes effect on March 1, 2008.

Thank G-d someone figured out how to put a stop to all those male and female drivers in Lakewood who seem to have a phone stuck between their ears and hands – as they drive carelessly around in their minivans and Camry/Hondas/Acuras ad infinitum.
Now the question is – according to the law – can we use a cell phone to call the police to bring to their attrention that a driver is using a cell phone.!!
Before you lie and make up some excuse for being caught, ask your Rav if a cop stops you can you lie to get out of paying the fine??
when taking exit 98 the 195 still is 65 it may be kidai
corzine proposed awhile ago to reduce the speed limit because he beloved people would use less gas, and this proposal was rejected. I guess he fugured out a way to disguise it.
Corzine as usual is thinking like too much of a Lib. The problem in that stretch is as I have said before on this blog, a tremendous amount of deer that wander near and onto the highway. I wonder in the accident stats how many really had to do with those terrible animals?? KILL THE DEER!!
#4: I guess with the higher speed limit they were doing just that. One at a time. 🙂
maybe corzine will wear a seatbelt no that they passed the law and new york and new jersey drivers are extremely aggressive and drive a little crazy maybe this will help them when you are on the new jersey turnpike towards new york u start to see more crashes
