  1. here are the facts
    1. due to the concentration of people in bp there is a courtesy to allow double parking when there is alternate side , which is a life saver
2.the video is taken a few minutes after alternate is over and so you have a double parked car on one side ( someone who innocently forgot to move their car back & a car in the parking lane which is now legal.
    3. so the bus cannot get thru , so the drivers went around which makes perfect sense ( you can see the satmar bus trying to back up because its too tight.
the driver is looking where he is driving and the homeowners can also look where they are going .less dangerous than crossing an avenue
whining for nothing to their luck it was not even a jewish bus, punishing a driver with suspension is way too harsh

  2. 1. There should be no such courtesy. And this is why.
    2. Again another reason it is not allowed and is ileagel to double park.
    3. There is NEVER a excuse for cars to drive on the sidewalk. I am sure you are one of those idiots that would complain if a bike was on the sidewalk but see no problem with this

Double parking is ileagle for a reason and this is a perfect example.

  3. Hey Meir G

I’m glad you think it makes perfect sense. How do you feel about YOUR kids riding their bikes or playing on the sidewalk, knowing that cars and buses can just drive into them ch”v!!??!! I’m can’t understand how someone in their right mind thinks it is ok. Obviously traffic is a major issue, and we all are tremendously inconvenienced by it, but some things are just not acceptable under any circumstances.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way. Anyone else agree?

  4. #1, of coarse it makes perfect sense for a bus to go on to the side walk. Would it make perfect sense if the bus hit your kid who was innocently walking on the side walk? Or is it only ok for you selfish pigs to disregard the rules and so things for your own selfish reasons?

  5. the driver is looking where he is driving and the homeowners can also look where they are going

Here’s an idea: They should just get rid of all the sidewalks, making the streets wider, and then everyone should just look where they’re going.

  6. wow , i am having a hard time understanding what i assume are normal frum people with seichel so let me try to clarify my points
    1. the headline is misleading the point of my comment is ” the context” the whole bp is not driving on sidewalks stand on 13 avenue for 2 hours you wont see one car on the sidewalk.
where does selfish pigs come in over here , if for whatever reason the street is blocked and you have a safe way around what is the problem ? do it safely
has anyone been hit in bp by a car deliberately driving on a sidewalk if as you say its so prevelant & so dangerous do the research dont just dismiss …..
kids on the street ???? bikes??? every time you cross you look and the pedestrian looks simple
sidewalks of course !! rule #1 is use your brains and problem solve
commentators please think for a minute before shooting off … may i back out of a block if there is a garbage truck ??

  7. frume yid – i have a bunch of kids w bikes on the sidewalk i think we have diff levels of risk and whats ok everyone is pro safe and against danger the question is where do u draw the line .. is skydiving ok how about sending a 6 year old to school in a car service…..
wgfd.. you are wrong on both points your opinion comes from all or nothing black & white thinking… NO excuse , “never” these are cognitive distortions, finally based on your comment thousands of working people should be inconvenienced w no double parking during alternate because maybe….. so flawed

  8. Meir G “1. due to the concentration of people in bp there is a courtesy to allow double parking when there is alternate side , which is a life saver” …. is this really a legal and lawful fact, or an opinion of your imagination? What about blocking the driveway of someone (Jewish or Non-Jewish) because one is late for mincha? That too must be a courtesy, right?

This is from the NYC DOT (Department of Transportation) website. I copied and pasted exactly. “Double parking of passenger vehicles is illegal at all times, including when street cleaning is occurring, regardless of location, purpose or duration. An occupied illegally parked vehicle causes the same safety hazard and congestion as an unoccupied vehicle.”

  9. meir G

You do not get it, cars are NEVER allowed on the sidewalk, PERIOD. The problem is the street is blocked because of illegal double parking. Those cars should be ticked and towed. The NYPD and Traffic agents need to enforce the laws on the books to keep traffic moving and people safe.

“may i back out of a block if there is a garbage truck ??” NO YOU MAY NOT, again an illegal maneuver and very dangerous. There are people that may step into the street not looking in your direction on a one way street because they would have no idea and car is coming backwards down the street. Nearing the corner again people in the cross walk not expecting a car coming backwards and cars entering the street the same.

Wait a few minutes until you can safely pass the garbage truck, how long would that take 5 minutes?

“finally based on your comment thousands of working people should be inconvenienced w no double parking during alternate because maybe”

I live in another very busy neighborhood, Midwood, by Brooklyn Collage. Alt side here, no one double parks on Alt days.
When you decide to get a car you take responsibility for that car, that means finding legal parking and driving within the laws, including NOT DRIVING ON SIDEWALKS! If you can not do that then you should not have a car.

  10. “finally based on your comment thousands of working people should be inconvenienced w no double parking during alternate because maybe” Also to add, what makes the “working people” that are double parking more important then the working people driving down the blocked street?

  11. TGIShabbos:
It’s either one of four things.
    1) You don’t live in Brooklyn.
    2) You never go shopping during the day.
    3) You don’t own or drive a car.
    4) You’re lucky enough to have a private driveway.

For the rest of us, that’s life in the big City. Get over it. There are too many cars here for such a condensed area. That is the metzies. The whole “alternate side/street cleaning” fraud, is simply an additional Gotcha tax by the thieves in City Hall. Double parked cars are here to stay. If that’s to difficult to fathom, I heard there are no parking issues in Bucyrus, North Dakota. Just bring along your winter coat.

  12. Not getting involved- I’ll address your questions.
    1. I don’t live in Brooklyn, I live in northern NJ.
    2. I go shopping during the day, with no problems found in urban landscapes like Brooklyn and mnahattan
    3. I own a car
    4. I have a driveway
You are fully entitled to have your views and opinions of alternate side parking and daily life with congestion and nowhere to park. However, there are traffic laws. I don’t make the laws, nor do I agree or like all of them. Do I understand that it is possible for my car to be ticketed or towed if I disobey the laws (including double parking)? Absolutely! In your own words “that’s city life”. Also, just because “everyone” does something because it’s “city life” doesn’t make it a kiddish Hashem.

Do I need to move to North Dakota for better parking? No, I can live in the 5 towns, Lakewood, monkey, Teaneck, etc….
