A Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to preserving the memory of the victims of Nazi atrocities has died in New York at age 93.
Sam Bloch died at his home on Feb. 4. His son-in-law, Menachem Rosensaft, says the cause of his death was congestive heart failure.
Bloch grew up in what was then Poland. He was 16 when his father was killed by Nazi forces in 1941.
Bloch joined a guerrilla brigade called the Bielski partisans, who hid in the woods and attacked German soldiers.
He later moved to New York and became a leader of efforts to plan Holocaust memorials and museums.
Bloch organized one of the first major reunions of Jewish survivors of the Holocaust in 1965.
He spent more than 50 years working for the World Zionist Organization.
