A man was killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Highway 90 near the Beit Arava junction in the Jordan Valley on Wednesday evening. Two other passengers were severely injured as the car that they were driving in was crushed by an oncoming truck. The car was stuck underneath the truck for more than two hours as emergency workers from the Fire Department the IDF and the Search and Rescue Units worked feverishly to extract it and the victims from beneath the semi-trailer. After the victims were extracted the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Teams of EMS responders from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah were on hand to treat the injured as soon as they were extracted from the vehicle. MDA EMT Nir Buzgalo said: “This was a shocking accident. We saw a car trapped underneath the front end of the truck. We tried to approach the car and discern how many people were inside but we were unable to ascertain this because the car was completely crushed and covered by the truck.”
United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Meir Pollack who was one of the first responders on the scene said: “When I arrived at the scene I saw the truck on top of the car. The Fire and Rescue teams were working hard to extract the driver and passengers. The driver had to be pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the injuries he suffered.”
In a second serious accident that occurred on Wednesday evening a motorcyclist (Pizza delivery person) was critically injured in Beer Sheva after it hit a parked truck on Mota Gur Street. Teams from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah responded to the emergency and treated the motorcyclist at the scene before transporting him to Soroka hospital. It was later reported that the motorcyclist died of his injuries in the hospital.
United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Eliah Tubul said: “When I arrived at the scene together with other volunteer EMTs who live nearby, we performed CPR in an attempt to resuscitate the motorcyclist who had been critically injured. He was transported to the hospital while still undergoing continuing resuscitative efforts.”
Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah treated another six people who were seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents across the country on Wednesday. One motorcyclist was injured in Taibe on Highway 57 after an accident involving a motorcycle and a car, a cyclist riding an electric bicycle hit a parked car in Bat Yam causing him to be moderately injured, a car and a bus were involved in a serious accident in Or Yehuda injuring three, and a young man was injured in Bnei Brak in an accident between his motorcycle and a bus.
These serious accidents come after the six fatalities on the roads that occurred on Tuesday throughout Israel.
