Williamsburg: Off-Duty NYPD Officer Hospitalized After Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound


Police say an off-duty NYPD officer was hospitalized Saturday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The officer was in a private car in Brooklyn when he shot himself in the chest.

The NYPD gave the following statement to YWN:

On Saturday, February 3, 2018 at approximately 11:05AM, police officers responded to a 911 call of male shot at Wythe Avenue and Williamsburg Street within the confines of the 90 Precinct.

Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered a male in the front passenger seat of a Honda Accord who sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During the on scene investigation, it was learned that the male was an off duty NYC police officer.

EMS responded and transported the off-duty officer to Elmhurst Hospital.

The male, whose identity is not being disclosed at this time, is currently in stable condition.
