The journalism student whose careless driving killed his Pulitzer Prize-winning passenger, author David Halberstam [as reported HERE on YWN], was sentenced to five days in jail by Judge Mark Forcum and he will also need to perform 200 hours of community service.
The 27-year-old Kevin Jones, a student at the University of California-Berkeley, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with the crash while making a left turn – [as reported HERE on YWN].
Jones apologized to the Halberstam family and the Halberstam’s family had urged the court that Jones not be jailed.
