WATCH THIS: Trump’s Clapping Draws Amusement, Derision on Social Media

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

President Donald Trump’s repeated clapping throughout his first State of the Union drew reactions from amusement to derision on social media.

Trump’s applause during Tuesday night’s address was audible over and over again as cameras cut away from the president and showed lawmakers and others offering varied levels of approval to his remarks.

Twitter users posted videos of Trump clapping for himself, with some noting that it became an annoying distraction. Others chimed in to question why the president would keep clapping for himself.

In the House chamber itself in Washington, majority Republicans led multiple rounds of enthusiastic applause during the speech. Democrats, meanwhile, provided a short spurt of polite applause for Trump as he entered the chamber, but offered muted reactions throughout the speech.

  1. Time for the WH Physician to revisit his neurological assessment of the Trumpkopf? He may claim that he was just applauding for the members of Congress who had the courage to applaud for him given the substance of what he was saying and his overall demeanor as POTUS….alternatively, and more likely, he was applauding for himself since he was closest to the microphone that was picking up the applause so his press secretary can go out and claim today “the decibel level of the applause last night for the President’s State of the Union speech was the loudest of any speech in history (aka the size of the crowd on the mall for inauguration delusion)…

  2. There is nothing wrong in him joining in the applause!

It is an applause for the general good feeling on the issues he is talking about.

Whether or not I am right about the above is less important than the fact that I am deeply concerned about the appearance of any negative headlines, articles or postings regarding Mr Trump. We Yidden owe him enormous Hakaros Hatov. There are things going on which were unheard of in previous administrations and particularly the last one. Recognition of Jerusalem, slashing UNWRA funding, releasing SMR, fighting our cause in the UN the list goes on. What right have we to join in the Media/ Democrats witch hunt of him? If we dont like something about him….keep quiet!!

  3. To etzhar:

I find your perspective both offensive and lacking in understanding of what our Democracy is about….we can and should be supportive of the President for the decisions and policies you note but likewise, as American citizens concerned about our country and its leadership, speak out strongly against the factual distortions, vulgarity, crudeness and ethnic divisiveness that had become the hallmark of this administration. Its not a zero sum game. If we don’t like something he says, we have both a right and obligation to speak out strongly, not to bury our heads in the sand and rationalize that any pushback means we don’t get a few crumbs thrown in our direction.

  4. President Trump was applauding his guests, the heroes that were there at his invitation. There are those amongst our people who are not very bright or knowledgable, and yet they are ready to discredit and joke about serious matters. The State of the Union speech last night was wonderful. We loved it. Of course if you are a left wing socialist liberal, then you didn’t appreciate it. Did you see the sour faces of Sen, Schumer or Nancy Pelosi? But our people should appreciate President Trump. He freed Shalom Rubashkin from gehenom. He recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The economy is booming. Look for the good, not the bad.

  5. And if he didn’t clap, he’s be so wooden and disinterested.
Remember the photo of his cluttered desk afew months ago ? And the pic-psych-psychos interepreted that to mean:
Vell,’ eez a very confoosed man and dizorgaanized. The other day the pic showed an empty desk . ” Vell, Hees nutt voorking, just eeting jello and vatcheeng de 3 stooogez at 3:00 am.’

Vell, de Dems don’t have a message, no vizzion nor luv of cuntrry, no luv of religion, aunlly fawwining over the prugrezziv leftee hazzerei. Jjust hate, ‘ate ‘ate.
Daa’tz itt, volks. .. Now daat vill bee $500… Ach

  6. Gadolhadorah & rt, I feel your pain that Nasty Woman was not elected. It has been more than year already, it is time to get off Trump derangement syndrome.

  7. How ungrateful some are about the great things President Trump had done!
His applause is to the people who applaud his good deeds and their good sense to understand what is good.

  8. Godolhadorah
I am sorry if I offended you. But I actually think you are wrong.
You may be an American citizen with rights etc. . But you seem to forget that you are also a Yid in Golus, benefitting from a Malchus shel Chessed in general and a President who is doing great by Yidden, in particular.
And so I repeat. A bit of gratitude and a lot of decorum would be much better advised, than exercising so-called democratic rights to criticise.
