The Defense Department is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite which expected to hit the Earth in early March – as reported HERE on YWN.
The Associated Press reports that the Bush Administration chose the option of firing a missile from a US Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it moves into the Earth’s atmosphere. The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down.

I.e. they’re shooting it down because they don’t want some hostile nation to get it’s hands on any US technology.
#1: Nope. They’re shooting it down as one upsmanship to the Chinese.
No US technology on this particular satellite would survive reentry. All that would survive would be blobs of metal.
Funny, Sammygol, but I’d rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than riding with Ted Kennedy.
