The store has promised to do everything in its power to avoid such mistakes in the future. It also offered a full refund to anyone who purchased a shatnez outfit.
The lesson is: You cannot rely on the assurance of a Jewish salesperson or a Jewish storeowner that a garment is free of Shatnez. You should have everything tested by a Professional Shatnez Laboratory.

I agree, I bought two of the same coats from a store in Brooklyn one had shatnez and one was clear from shatnez.

I agree with the lesson. I know someone who is involved in checking for shatnez, and he always stresses that people rely too much on the fact that since they purchase an article of clothing from a Jewish person they do not need to be concerned about shatnez! He has too many stories to prove otherwise.
I hope this strengthens everyone’s commitment to shatnez awareness.
I have a funny question though, why didn’t the shoppers read the label? Everyone knows what shatnez is, the first customer should have noticed it!

#16- since safek is just lack of knowledge and can easily be clarified, rule of sfek sfaika does not apply. See rules of sfek sfaika in Shulchan Aruch YD110 for more details.
I work in a family owned frum business that makes boys clothing in Italy. While we can not tell people that the clothing is not Shatnez, we do care and check as much as possible to prevent Shatnez. Despite this we can make no guarantees. A case like this where the label clearly states wool and linen is inexcuseable.

i was born to suvivors ,and not buying german products was as natural as not eating foods with out a hechsher

There certainly are people who for emotional reasons won’t buy German products, and I understand that. All I said was there’s no SAYCHELDIK reason not to buy them. I.e. someone who lets his intellect control his emotions and understands that while we must never forget the holocaust and the wickedness of the nazis there is no logical connection between that and not buying German products today – which certainly does not support nazism in any way – such a person will have no problem buying products from Germany.
#4 & #10, and all others arguing about buying German made goods, in today’s global economy, it is very hard to know what is made where. Did you know, for instance, that Electrolux has merged with AEG, and is now a German company? However, you can buy a Volvo made in Germany (Swedish company) and a Mercedes or BMW made in UK (German company). Did you also know that the Nuk pacifiers and bottles that you baby is sucking on is made in Germany? It says so on every nipple!
Regarding the Sfek Sfeka,
PM, even if the rules of sfek sfeka DID apply here, this is not a sfek sfeka because the 2nd safek would need to be dependant on the first. In this case you merely have 2 sfekos at the same level, not a sfek sfeka. To illustrate, in order to have sfek sfeka, you would need a sofek if there was material X, and even if there was, it would need to be a safek if material X is a problem…

#1 is simply all garments must be free of shatnez if you wish to wear them. That requires you to have your garments checked by a reliable SHATNEZ LABORATORY. NO assumptions,NO shortcuts, NO baloney.
#2 “heimeshe yidden” who sell garments that they know are made from SHATNEZ MATERIAL should understand that this is VERY AGGREGIOUS CONDUCT, and there are those among us that will not let it pass quietly.
May this incident result in greater awareness and less violation of our HOLY TORAH LAWS.
