U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favor of a draft United Nations resolution against his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
Trump then praised US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley, who on Tuesday wrote in a letter that Washington will be “taking names” of countries that support the measure.
Haley said that President Trump will take the U.N. General Assembly vote on a nonbinding resolution criticizing his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “personally.”
Nikki Haley also said in a letter to many of the U.N.’s 193 member states that the Trump administration is “simply asking that you acknowledge the historical friendship, partnership, and support we have extended and respect our decision about our own embassy.”

The letter drew sharp criticism from the Turkish and Palestinian foreign ministers who accused the U.S. of intimidation.
The 193-member U.N. General Assembly will hold a rare emergency special session on Thursday at the request of Arab and Muslim countries on the controversial U.S. decision.
Unlike the Security Council, assembly resolutions are not legally binding but they do reflect world opinion.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki and Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu, who are traveling to New York for Thursday’s vote, said Wednesday they believe U.N. member countries will ignore “pressure” from Haley.

@ Akuperma, I know how to think, here I did the research for you. Of the current 15 members of the UN security council (excluding the US) The US is planning to give foreign aid to 7 of them. The list is as follows: China, Eygpt, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Senegal, Ukraine, Uruguay. All of them had the Chutzpah to vote against the United States.
