In the Russian city of Izhevsk, the local Jewish community is preparing for a new initiative aimed at expanding the availability of kosher bread in the region. This week, Chief Rabbi of Izhevsk Mikhoel Urin and the Chairman of the ‘Magen David’ Jewish Community paid a visit to the ‘Vereshaginskiy’ Bakery. The goal of the visit was to prepare the plant to be utilized in the production of kosher food products.
This is one of the most established and largest plants in the region, having been founded in 1929. On numerous occasions, its food products have received awards at a variety of exhibitions on certified kosher products.
During the site inspection, they did not encounter any prospective problems with the storage, processing and grinding processes in food preparation. In addition to the actual production of kosher bread, this initiative also plans on initiating the production of kosher flour and other grains. This would be the first time in history that kosher cereals, grains and flour would be produced in Russia and certified by the Moscow branch of the Kashrut Department of Russia.
