New Rules To Cross The Border (Important Info)

dhs.jpgAdults and children will need proof of citizenship if traveling across U.S. borders by land or sea – starting January 31. Travelers 19 years or older will have to show a government-issued photo id and a birth certificate if they don’t have a passport. Children will only need the birth certificate until new border rules become permanent in June of 2009. YWN had previously posted the new procedures and guidelines on January 23. 1. Before everyone gets scared please be aware that this is not a significant change. They have for the 6 years required proof of citizenship. The only difference is that until now the immigration officer was not MANDATED to ask for proof of citizenship but almost always did, now they are mandated to ask for it. Therefore for all travelers driving no real change occurred, before you had to have proof of citizenship because they had the right to ask for it and were able to deny you entry for not having it and now they will be mandated to ask for it.
