The following via ABC7NY:
There are huge lines of people inside and out of John F. Kennedy Airport’s Terminal 4 in Queens on Thursday afternoon.
At around 3:00 PM, the TSA reported a software issue prevented passengers from being screened. Just five of 18 screening lanes were working.
“Software technicians are on site at JFK’s Terminal 4 to address an issue with some of the checkpoint screening lanes that are currently down due to a software issue,” the TSA said in a statement.
Delta, which is the anchor tenant of Terminal 4, also operates from Terminal 2. They are telling passengers to go through security there and then take a bus past security back to Terminal 4. This works for Virgin Atlantic and KLM too.
Delta is delaying some departures to try to give people time to make their flights, but they have a schedule to keep and gates to free up for arriving flights. So, many flights are being forced to leave despite passengers waiting for a considerable amount of time.
Many other international airlines use Terminal 4, and those passengers do not have the option to go through security at Terminal 2.
Other airlines include but are not limited to:
Emirates
El Al
Air India
asiana
China airlines
Etihad
Singapore
South African
Swiss
