Nothing less than Hashgacha Pratis is how this amazing story can be described.
A Jewish couple that lives in Las Vegas had tickets to the concert where the horrific mass shooting took place last night. At the last minute they cancelled their plans and did not attend.
A community member has informed YWN, that the woman, who is a teacher at the Yeshiva Day School of Las Vegas, and her husband, attended Davening at a local Shul for Yom Kippur. The husband only stayed for Kol Nidrei, but was inspired to fast the entire Yom Kippur. His wife returned to Shul for davening during the day, and had an “Aliya Ruchni” from the experience.
On Sunday afternoon, the husband came down with a severe headache, while the wife decided she didn’t want to attend the non-Jewish concert just one day after Yom Kippur.
Thus, the couple decided to cancel their plans, and the rest of the story is history.
The massacre left at least 58 people dead, and more than 500 people injured.

Notwithstanding, this couple does not Halachically Betsch Gomel.
maybe no benching ‘haGomel’ but they could and maybe should make a gevaldik kiddush in shul!
147: I suspect they will ask their Posek about that.
Who suggested that they should?
The Yated wrote glowingly about the new mesivta of Las Vegas in the current issue and then Sunday night–
“Oi L’Rasha V’Oi L’Scheino”!
Sometimes the timing of an article appearing is in order to catch our attention. Then the message is delivered.
Perek 7 of Sefer Yehoshua starts with the tragedy at the City of Ai after first stating the Bnai Yisrael transgressed and angered Hashem because of what one individual did. How does that make any sense since it appears Yehoshua did not know why 36 men died at Ai? Did the Bnai Yisrael know what Achan ben Carmi did and simply ignored it?
We know that what was written in Navi are also lessons for the present day so what is the message from Yehoshua to us?
Perhaps use of the words וַיִּחַר-אַף in the first pasuk of perek 7 of Yehoshua can explain. The same words (in different tense) appear in the Torah:
וְחָרָה אַפִּי, וְהָרַגְתִּי אֶתְכֶם בֶּחָרֶב; וְהָיוּ נְשֵׁיכֶם אַלְמָנוֹת, וּבְנֵיכֶם יְתֹמִים
Note the context of this pasuk in Parshas Mishpatim! We know that when the Torah and Navi use the same words and phrases there are connections.
While the perpetuated mistreatment of the widow in Las Vegas by Young Israel, RSA (LV Kollel) & OU can’t be compared with what Achan did which did not hurt anyone, why does the heartbreak we feel this week compare with that of Navi Yehoshua’s generation at the loss of Yair ben Menashe at Ai? Does Hashem’s message with a blazing sword at the city Sunday night get through to anyone?
Maybe it would if i had a clue what you were talking about.
Hopefully this couple will now iy’H be mekabel to accept all mitzvos upon themselves, all the time!
Really amazing that Hashem saved them but none the other 558+ people who suffered in this attack!! Surely none of them were worthy of saving!!! Truly incredible.
@ocho sinco – B”H, I thought I was the only one who is completely confused!
Someone in kiruv should contact the couple. They should explain to them all that happened and invite them to an Arachim seminar. They rest will be history.
