Israel Police Using More Unmarked Vehicles For Traffic Enforcement

As part of its ongoing battle to reduce the number of accident and road fatalities, Israel Police officials announce additional unmarked vehicles are being deployed on highways to give a feeling of comfort to drivers obeying the law and a feeling of discomfort for those who do not”.

In the accompanying video, we see a taxi driver who has determined there are no police vehicles in the area, permitting himself to review documents while driving. He was pulled over by an unmarked vehicle.

In addition to the unmarked vehicles, police also developed an original trap to outsmart traffic offenders traveling at excessive speeds: a few hundred yards before overt police posts that cause drivers to slow down, there are hidden speed recording devices.

Chief of Israel Police Traffic Enforcement Rami Raz said that for the purpose of the operation, vehicles belonging to the military police and the Border Police were also allocated. “Our goal is to create a sense of security for citizens and a sense of insecurity for law-breakers,” he said.

Fifty-two people have been killed on the nation’s roadways since the beginning of the summer of 2017.
