President Donald Trump says he may grant a pardon to former Sheriff Joe Arpaio following his recent conviction in federal court, prompting outrage among critics who say the move would amount to an endorsement of racism.
The longtime sheriff in metro Phoenix was booted out of office in November and was found guilty of a misdemeanor count for disobeying orders to stop immigration traffic patrols that a federal judge said resulted in racial profiling against Latinos.
The Fox News report that Trump is considering a pardon for Arpaio was welcome news for the former sheriff. But it angered immigrant rights activists who find it to be a troubling signal from the president at a time when the nation is reeling over the race-fueled violence in Virginia.

Dear President Trump,
Please pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio and appoint him to head Homeland Security. It’s high-time we respected the laws of our country and Sheriff Joe has a tradition of upholding the law even if it wasn’t politically correct to do so at the time. (At the time of the outlaw obama, Yemach Shemoi)
How many Republicans or independent “deplorables” would be outraged? If people who regard Trump as the “great satan” are outraged, Trump really isn’t going to care a bit.
> immigration traffic patrols that a federal judge said resulted in racial profiling against Latinos
Is the grammar correct? Was the problem that immigration traffic patrol result in racial profiling? Or was the problem that racial profiling resulted in immigration traffic patrols? The former is the logical equivalent of stopping murder investigations because the majority of murder is committed by (racial) minorities and the investigation will lead to racial profiling.
