Community leaders and members of law enforcement gathered on August 10 th in Bethel to show their support and express their gratitude to Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff and Undersheriff Eric Chaboty for their years of dedication to county residents.
Schiff was elected to his initial term as Sullivan County sheriff in 2005, naming Chaboty as his first choice to serve as undersheriff. After earning the trust and faith of county residents, Schiff and Chaboty were voted in twice more and are up for re-election this fall. Both men are long time veterans of the New York State Police who were on site for the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks and have provided exemplary service to Sullivan County for the last 11 years.
Orange County Sheriff Carl Dubois and Putnam County Undersheriff Paul Boscia praised the sheriff and undersheriff as consummate professionals who have deftly
managed to patrol Sullivan County roads and ensure the steady flow of traffic throughout the year, a particularly daunting task when more than 100,000 Brooklyn
residents take up residence upstate during the summer months.
Addressing those in attendance were Rabbi Bernard Freilach, Rabbi Abe Friedman, Chaskel Bennett, Rabbi Moshe Indig, Abraham Rosenberg and Joel Friedman who spoke glowingly of the sheriff’s departments many accomplishments in recent years. Also present were community leaders from Liberty, Bloomingburg, Fallsburg and Monticello and representatives of Hatzolah, Chaverim and other organizations, all of whom share extremely positive working relationships with Schiff and Chaboty.
Bethel Town Supervisor Dan Stern, who was also in attendance and is up for re-election this year as well, was hailed by community leaders as a great public servant who has displayed his innate ability to understand the unique needs of both town and county residents during his ten years in office.
