The Levaya for Efrayim Shimon Szydlow Z”L, the 15-month-old toddler that was R”L struck and killed by a taxi in Monsey on Sunday, was held on Monday morning. The Kevura was held in Monsey.
Meanwhile, police say that the taxi driver was operating the vehicle without a drivers license. He was only issued summonses and not immediately arrested.
Sources tell YWN that additional charges may soon follow.
The following is a a statement given to YWN by the Ramapo Police Department:
On 08/06/17 at about 4:58PM the Town of Ramapo Police received a report that a child had been struck by a car on Johanna Lane in Monsey. Arriving officers found that a child, a 15 month old male had in fact been struck by a car. The child was transported by Hatzolah Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital where he subsequently died.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Ramapo Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau. The preliminary investigation has determined a taxi cab being operated by a male (age 41) of Monsey had just picked up a fare at 3 Johanna Lane and was backing from the driveway when it struck the child who was sitting in the roadway.
There were two other occupants in the taxi at the time of the accident.
There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement. It has been determined that driver of the taxi was unlicensed at the time of the accident. He will receive a ticket for unlicensed operation. Additional tickets may be forthcoming upon the completion of this investigation.
