On December 18, YW posted a story headlined “NMB: Hero Neighbor Helps Cops Nail Burglars“. Tonight, Eduardo Fields wrote the following email to Yeshiva World thanking everyone for their kind words.
Dear Yeshiva World Editor and Readers:
When I saw some people in my neighbors’ driveway that did not belong there, I picked up the phone and called the police. I was not about to wait and see what they were up to, and I certainly was not going to look the other way. These are my neighbors and we are a community.
I never expected to be treated like such a hero by the Jewish Community. Yeshiva World, you are the best! Neighbors have come to congratulate me nonstop. Children are all coming over to thank me. It is quite amazing.
We loved the comments and my wife thought the comment that my wife, Mrs. Fields, should bake the cookies was hilarious. (See comments HERE)
Tonight, the local news station filmed neighbors praising me. Another Jewish web site listed me as a hero and posted my picture and story – and people I do not even know are clicking to write to thank me for being a “Mench.” Now I have to ask my Jewish neighbors what a “mench” is and what some of these other words are – but they all seem good. I have even received one offer to replace a neighbor’s door. Even my business is picking up.
I can say, the Jewish people really know how to thank a person for something he should be doing anyway just as a neighbor. North Miami Beach is a great place to live and my neighbors are great neighbors.

OK… So what is a “MENCH”? When the average person (not let’s say a national sports figure) is all of the following combined; A righteous person, gentleman, honest, moral and does the right thing.
And to Mrs. Fields: We smell the cookies all the way up here in the cold northeast.
