Flatbush Shomrim Apprehend Car Thieves On Tuesday Night

IMG_8699.jpg(Click HERE for photos) Many people living in the heart of Flatbush are well aware, that there have recently been dozens of cars broken into throughout the neighborhood. The thieves walk the streets, and find cars which have their doors unlocked. They then take anything valuable left inside the car.

The dedicated volunteers of Flatbush Shomrim have been stepping up their patrols trying to catch them in recent weeks.

Luck was on Shomrim’s side this evening, as they witnessed the three thieves walking up and down the streets attempting to find an open car doors. They finally found one – on East 24th Street between Avenue M and N. As soon as they started rummaging through the car, numerous Shomrim units converged on the scene and attempted to apprehend them.

They were successful in holding one perp, while two others fled. Dozens of Shomrim units converged on all four corners on the block until they spotted the perps and apprehended them.

The NYPD 70 PCT responded swiftly, and arrested all three suspects – one of which was in possession of a bag filled with cell phones, CD players, iPods, and other items.

Yeshivaworld spoke with Flatbush Shomrim Coordinator Chaim Deutsch immediately following the incident. “We think we’ve nailed a group of thieves who are responsible for breaking into dozens of cars”, Deutsch said. “People should not keep anything valuable in their cars”.

If you see anything suspicious, please call Shomrim’s 24hr emergency hotline at 718-338-9797

  1. Great job, fantastick pictures! A nice x mas gift;a long prison sentence and one less predator.
NYC owes a debt gratitude to these Shomrim, too.
Wish there were more groups in other neighborhoods, too, like the Hatzolo.

  2. OK, folks, there were dozens of posts re: Hatzoloh, some even mentioned Shoimrim. Lets give these guys a real BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE!! They put their lives at risk chasing the most dangerous criminals, never knowing if the person has a weapon chas v’shalom. They are as dedicated as the Hatzoloh guys in every way. Credit also goes to the heroic wives, who allow their UNARMED husbands to patrol the streets all night.
