The tensions between Turkey and Syria continue to mount, with the situation somewhat exacerbated by Syria shooting down a Turkish fighter plane earlier in the week. According to reports from news agencies, Turkey is deploying troops along the Syrian border as well as missile batteries signaling a possible military conflict may be on the agenda.
According to Turkey’s state-run news agency, a convoy of 30 armored vehicles including missile batteries was seen setting up 50km (30 miles) from the Syrian border. Another report from the same agency states additional armored vehicles were set into position closer to the border, some actually along the border.
Syrian officials told the media that the fighter jet was downed as it was believed to be an Israeli plane. This message of significance was released to the media by the country’s minister of information on Wednesday, 7 Tammuz 5772.
