A Camden woman was charged Thursday with fatally beating an elderly Cherry Hill man she had been caring for and allegedly stealing from, authorities said.
Yolanda Steele, 32, of the Branch Village Apartments, used a cane to beat 82-year-old Sidney Wenof of the 1800 block of Frontage Road, numerous times, while his wife was there, authorities said. Someone activated a medical alert system that summoned an ambulance, officials said.
Wenof lost consciousness shortly after arriving at Cooper University Hospital.
According to investigators, Steele allegedly stole money from Wenof’s bank and money market accounts and forged stolen checks on more than one occasion.
A security guard inside the building where Wenof lived said no one was at the home Thursday afternoon. A flier in the building’s lobby informed residents about Wenof’s funeral service and the address for the shiva, a traditional week of mourning in the Jewish faith.

There are so many Jewish elderly living on their own, and are being mistreated in a number of ways
Is it not time to form an organization that will come and visit them in their homes?
This is unfortunately an all-too-common phenomenon among caregivers of the elderly 🙁
