Streit’s Matzoh Factory Put Up For Sale

smm.jpgThe 82-year-old Streit’s Matzo factory on the lower East Side is being sold to make room for condos – and the asking price is $25 million; the NY Daily News reports.

“Personally, it’s sad, because these are the halls my grandfather walked,” said Alan Adler, whose great-grandfather, Aron Streit, founded the firm in 1925. “The last day I turn out the lights, a tear will be in my eyes.”

Adler said the company plans to move to a new location in the New York area in about a year, so have no fear that there will be a shortage of Matzoh.

He said the awkward layout of the red-brick factory – formed by combining four tenements – made it impossible for the company to stay in the space forever.

Insiders say Streit’s has been quietly shopping the site for years as prices have soared in the area, which is now home to boutiques and plush lounges.

  1. Talking about Streits, does anyone know why they are no longer under the Kof-K ? Their packages say under xxxxxxx hashgacha for xxxx years. But, I clearly remember the Kof-K on their packages also for years. It is missing now for about a year or more.

Try asking the Kof K- If you don’t pay for a hechsher , yod don’t get one.

Personally I beleive it has to do with XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX who didn’t want a second haskach, it would be as if his wasn’t “good” enough. And maybe that is why the other Rav also is no longer on the package, as he had been for years, even a few more prominant that xxxxxxxxxxxx

  3. #6, you are pathetic shoitah.

Citing no evidence whatsoever, you tell us that you believe that one rav hamachshir has pushed out two other hashgochos. If this were true, why did Streits ever solicit a hechsher from the Kof -K? At the end of the day, Streit’s made a business decision. If they felt it was worth the cost of a national hashgocha, they would still have one.

Why don’t you tell us what the hashgochos were being paid? Better yet, what do you believe is your chelek in olam haboh??????
