UK: Police Refuse To Send Officers After Jewish Girl Was Beaten

It has just emerged, Metropolitan Police Service failed to send officers for two hours after being contacted about a Jewish teenager beaten and bloodied by a group of Anti-Semites.

The shocking incident occurred on Shabbos, May 27, in Stoneyfields Park in Edgware.

Alexander Goldberg, a Jewish chaplain at the University of Surrey, described the incident on his Facebook page. His 16-year-old daughter, Hannah, had been sitting in the park with two friends when they were approached by a group of five teenagers. The gang had been playing on a basketball court, but left the court and began to toss around a football “in and around” the three Jewish girls. Goldberg writes, the teens identified the girls as being Jewish by the traditional long skirts they were wearing.

The teenagers then allegedly began hurling verbal abuses at the girls, culminating in one of them telling Hannah: “Hitler should have killed all you Jews when he had the chance…you should have all been gassed.” After Hannah pointed out Hitler would have done the same to the gang, some of whom were black, one of the teens responded “Jews are the worst.”

Upset and angry, Hannah asked her two friends if they could just leave. As they walked off, one of the boys threw a basketball at her face, causing her nose to bleed. She was then kicked in the chest and punched twice in the face by some of the gang.

The girls then found a passing-by off-duty Royal Mail employee who twice called Police to report the assault. Shockingly, the Metropolitan Police Service didn’t send officers to the park despite the three Jewish girls waiting at the scene for two hours. Police also refused to investigate their failure not to deploy officers when contacted by Hannah’s father, but did agree to open an investigation after he had Stamford Hill Shomrim intercede.

The following is a statement by the Campaign Against Antisemitism: “We are appalled by the lack of a police response to a violent antisemitic assault on Jewish children. This incident should have resulted in police officers attending within no more than eight minutes, and the failure of the Metropolitan Police Service to deploy must be investigated thoroughly and transparently. Campaign Against Antisemitism is writing to the Commissioner.” Police have not yet responded.

This is the second recent example of police failing to respond to an antisemitic attack. Last week, YWN reported on Kent Police refusing to come to the aid of a Jewish family attacked by stone-throwing teens while enjoying a beach vacation.
