Noach Dear Making Calls About Jumping Into State Senate Race

Former City Councilman Noach Dear could be about to enter the State Senate race for a heavily Orthodox Jewish seat in Brooklyn.

The news was first reported by Yossi Gestetner, who tweeted Mr. Dear “is calling around friends telling them he is 90% ready” to announce his candidacy. Sources subsequently confirmed to The Politicker that Mr. Dear is indeed making calls about the run.

Mr. Dear’s signals come on the heels of another candidate, former Councilman Simcha Felder, signaling his intentions to run for the seat, setting up a potential conflict with Mr. Dear’s successor in the City Council. City & State‘s sources indicated Mr. Felder would caucus with the Democrats in the State Senate … unless his vote was crucial for the Republicans to hang onto the majority, which would be a big caveat indeed.

  1. I would hope that Noach Dear asks Hagoan R. Dovid Feinstein who he is very close with if he should run for this seat or not? Or do we need him to stay as Judge? Before making this decision.

  2. so far it looks like simcha is sitting pretty.
lets see, Dear who lost more races than most career politicians even run in ,
nachman caller, to be supported by those who supported weprin and fidler
or simcha felder who will run on his record which most people seem to be happy with.

  3. A contest between Noach and Simcha would indeed be interesting, but I doubt that Dear would give up a lifetime judicial appointment with the high probability of a loss to Felder.
Dear in an anathema to many, while Felder is viewed more favorably by the majority within the district.

  4. Why would he want to be state legislator when he already is a judge. A judge is better off economically, has more regular hours, and has more prestige.

  5. I would vote for Noach Dear any day over Simcha Felder because I cannot vote for a communist who made a big Chillul Hashem when he sponsored the bill to extend term limits about four years ago when the New York City voters not once but twice defeated it. I know that Noach tried changing the rules to run a while back but @ least he didn’t vote to extend term limits.

  6. To Yaakov Doe

Noach Dear was elected a NY state civil court judge. Elected state judges do not have life tenure, rather they are usually elected for 15 year terms.

  7. Noach,
Go back to the city council & undo some of the tyranny imposed on us by his arrogance the mayor.
    PLEASE

  8. #3- New York judges don’t have lifetime appointments – however they are usually reelected, and Dear has impressed more people in his judicial career than he ever did in his legislative career. Even those who complained the loudest about his becoming a judge have been favorably impressed.

  9. Dear should immediatly seek legal advice as to whether he can even expore running for office while on the bench. If I remember correctly there is a legal issue here.
