We regret to inform you of the Petira of Rabbi Azriel Chaim Goldfein ZATZAL, the Rosh HaYeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Johannesburg. He was Niftar on Shabbos morning at the age of 72 – after complications from a heart surgery.
A Talmid Muvhak of Rav Mordechai Gifter ZATZAL, the Yeshiva Gedolah of Johannesburg was run in the “Telzer Derech” ever since it was established. Many of its Talmidim have gone on to becoming Rabbonim, Dayanim, and Balei Batim who are Kovea Itim LaTorah.
He is survived by his wife, 9 children, and a brother.
The Levaya is on Monday as they are awaiting the arrival of one of his sons from the USA. Shiva is at 166 Louis Botha Avenue, Houghton Estates, Johannesburg starting Monday, and his brother is sitting Shivah in Flatbush at 1657 East 8th Street until Friday morning.

Rav Goldfein was a great Mashpia and tremendous speaker. A true loss for South African Jewry.
HaRav Goldfine Zatzal was a tremendous Lamden and Talmud Chacham disseminating Torah to the whole of the South African community and will be sorrowly missed-a gem of a person B’midos, and B’chasadim.
Wishing the gansa Mishpacha and the yeshiva a heartfelt nechama and may he be a malitz yosher for gantz Klal Yisrael.
IN 1973, IT WAS MY HONOUR TO “INTRODUCE” RAV AZRIEL GOLDFINE ZATZAL TO THE FRUM KEHILLA IN SOUTH AFRICA IN THE “S.A. JEWISH OBSERVER”. RABBI GOLDFINE WROTE ME A SCHOLARLY ARTICLE ON THE LANGER CASE TITLED “TO HONOUR THE WISE”. IT RECEIVED INTERNATIONAL PRAISE AND ACCLAIM. HE WAS ALSO A VERY KIND BA’AL MIDOS VE MA’ASIM TOVIM. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE GOLDFEIN AND FISHBEIN FAMILIES. WE HAVE ALL SUFFERED A GREAT LOSS.
