Durham University is to become the first North East university to provide a kosher kitchen and dining facilities for its students.
The University’s Jewish Society will be celebrating the opening of the kitchen, which will provide Shabbos and Yom Tov meals for members of the society.
The facilities, located in St Aidan’s College, will be under the direction of the college catering manager.
All catering in the kosher kitchen will conform to Jewish dietary law concerning food and its preparation. For example, pork is prohibited, and vegetables and fruit must be very well cleaned to ensure no insects are eaten.

University of Pennsylvania has had one for years. Two kosher kitchens (separate Dairy and Meat) with a full-time Mashgiach.
Um, first North Eastern University with a Kosher kitchen? YU, Lander, QC, Harvard, Princeton, all offer kosher cafs and I’m sure many others do also.
