In his latest show, Jake speaks with Rabbi Avi Pollack, Principal of the Beren Academy in Houston.
As reported on YWN, their High School basketball team was forced to forfeit a semi-final game because it was scheduled for Shabbos. The league has refused to reschedule. Rabbi Pollack explains that the rescheduling would have required only minor adjustments, and in fact a similar exception was made by the same league once before. Rabbi Pollack also discusses how they’ve turned this into a learning experience for the students. The league association has come under fire from many sources, including the Mayor of Houston, and NBA coaches.

We talked about this episode in our office which consists of mostly prof. non Yidden.
They don’t really admire us. To the contrary, they are taken aback by our believe system, that an Almighty God would choose a minority of people, of all other people, to celebrate His Holy day of rest. They love and adore their own children and don’t look at them as inferior.
