The Governor of Ulyanovsk, Sergei Morozov, hosted a meeting involving Chief Rabbi of Ulyanovsk ,Yosef Marozov who is also serving in the region as a Lubavitch Shliach. He, alongside leaders from other ethnic groups and diasporas represented in the region, attended at the Governor’s invitation.
Following the event, Governor Morozov and Rabbi Marozov signed an accord of mutual cooperation between the Jewish community and the city. It states that the Chief Rabbi of Ulyanovsk is tasked with advancing spirituality in the region, as well as providing assistance with respect to various forms of humanitarian aid and social needs of local residents, to the young and old, including addressing the challenge of stopping alcohol and drug abuse in the region. On this occasion, Governor Sergei Morozov also promised to help the Jewish community in whatever way he can.
The Jewish community of Ulyanovsk is a dynamic and blossoming Jewish community, which belongs to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia. For nearly 80 years, this city of 755,000 residents did not have a resident Rabbi until Rabbi Yosef Marozov relocated to aid the local community 14 months ago.
