Lakewood Township officials announced on Thursday that they have started to receive the funding for its $3 million Route 9 bypass road being built to relieve congestion; reports the Asbury Park Press.
The $1.2 million grant came from the state Department of Transportation and will go toward extending Vine Avenue south to connect with Vermont Avenue at Chestnut Street.
Vine has already been lengthened to reach down to the Rutgers Drive neighborhood as part of the recent recreational facility development.
With the funding in place, this phase of construction will start in the winter and be finished by spring.

For those that are wondering where vermont avenue & Chestnut is, A new development is being built off Chestnut st. with 3 new blocks, one of those will be Vermont – which will lead to Vine. The construction has already begun.
beware! this is a huge speed trap!! a 25mph zone and its empty road, you find yourself going 45… lakewood cops love to sit there to catch someone, rather then patrol our crime ridden streets!!
How about some cash to ease the traffic on the Van Wyck!
