(Click HERE to watch a short video clip of this event) Edgewood’s Shomrim is taking on a new target: absentee landlords they say are running down the neighborhood. Patrol organizer Eli Greer and his sidekick, national Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa announced the new campaign Monday outside the police substation on Whalley Avenue. They promised to use publicity and patrols to pressure slumlords and the johns and drug-buyers frequenting their properties. And Sliwa promised to “take down” criminals at the properties with citizen arrests.
The pair identified one building in particular, 255 Ellsworth Ave., and its Meriden-based owner as their first target.
Meanwhile, city officials, including the neighborhood’s top cop, described the landlord as responsible and cooperative in efforts to fight blight and crime.

Do you think Mr. Greer could help Lakewood?
It he has the gula, pizzazz and drive necessary to get the job done.
For those who care to know Eli Greer lives a few houses down from 255 Ellsworth. 255 Ellsworth is also right next door to the Yeshiva of New Haven dorm. Now you understand why they are going after 255 Ellsworth.
Lakewood needs such a guy!
He’s on to something – go out & say what needs to be said.
All due respect, Curtis Sliwa is hardly Eli Greer’s sidekick. He is an (inter)nationally renowned consultant on citizen’s patrols, and is a syndicated talk show host that has subbed for the likes of Sean Hannity. Sidekick? His presence lends much needed credence to the New Haven shomrim!
Hatzlachah Rabbah to the shomrim in cleaning up New Haven!!
Could anybody explain me why it”s the landlord’s fualt.
Does anybody really think that a landlord would knowingly take in a drug dealer as a tenant??? When the drug dealer comes to rent the house, he doesn’t announce that he’s a drug dealer.
I think the drug dealer himself is the only one to blame. Their just using the landlord’s as scapegoat’s since they’re scared to take on the drug dealer’s themselves. If he doesn’t like the neighboorhood – then move out – it’s a free country.
Lakewood: PLEASE take them away from us!!
I’m sorry. Can someone please explain to me why the shomrim have to get involved anyway? I don’t see what this has to do with them at all?
The slum lords are terrible for the community. They attract crime and dangerous personalities.
they should get a life, and if they want to anyone on it should be the police for not fighting crime, enough of all this nonsense about slumlords
Curtis, Curtis, Curtis wooooooohooooooooo! yup, Curtis Sliwa is always on the right side of the argument!
Thanks for your help!
the blaming blaming game will get you nowhere. the lanlords can’t afford just to evict the tenants, if you realy want to help, be realistic and try to get funding for eviction costs plus a month or two, basicaly help them so they won’t have a terrible lose, then you can be proud of what your doing, otherwise its just a lot of jeolusy with a moxture of power.
