Yartzheit Of Maran Hagoen Rav Shach ZATZAL

rav shach.jpgThousands of people visited the Kever of Rav Shach in Bnei Brak – whose 6th Yartzheit is today – 16 Cheshvon. Here are parts of Rav Shach’s Tzava’ah. In the will, Rav Shach conducts a scathing cheshbon hanefesh: “Since no man knows when his final day on earth will transpire,” the tzava’ah begins, “I have decided to make a cheshbon hanefesh-to review my past, and to scrutinize every detail and every one of my deeds that might be interpreted as mitzvos, but are really aveiros. Woe to us from Yom Hadin. Woe to us from the Day of Rebuke. Who will be considered upright before You in the din?”

“I also ask that those students who know that they benefited from me in Torah, yiras Hashem or in middos do a chessed for my neshama and study at least one mishna or one mussar thought a day for my sake. That will be my reward, for I was also moser nefesh for the sake of your success in Torah study. Similarly, if I am able to intercede in Shamayim on your behalf, I will do so, bli neder.”

Rav Shach closes his will, saying, “I pray that I will merit to stand before Hakodosh Boruch Hu after having done teshuva shelaima. I part from you with love.”

  1. Its only years later taht we are starting to see the greatness and long term vision Rav Shach . Several years ago I heard a speech from an individual who moved from NY to Texas to do kiruv work for many years who explained that Rav Shach had instructed him to go.
When Rav Shach took an unpopular position on other jewish groups in an outspoken way that we did not understand or could not identify with , he knew what the long term needs of preserving the true face of yidishkeit was all about.
Rav Shach advise many not to move to the Gaza Strip (Gush katif) ,possibly because he understood what might happen to the jews tehre many years down the road.

We despratly need strong leadership in our community , and I pray that we find it soon.

  2. It is 6 years now.I was by the levaya.I remember it clearly. It was a friday, and people ended up walking home from in middle of the way because of shabbos(i’m sure there were those who got stuck too..)…

  3. I once heared that an Adom Gadol said about Rav Shach that he can be considerd as 1 of the 36 hidden tzaddikim. The obvious question is Rav Shach, we all know he is a Gadol. But this Adom Gadol said what you saw was a tiny dot, barely the tip of the iceberg Rav Shach’s true Gadlus noone ever saw.

    V’hayu Aynecha Ro’os Es Morecha.
