A bus driver was recognized Thursday for helping put the brakes on discrimination. The Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) presented the Louis Lenkinski Memorial award to Geovanny Hidalgo after the bus driver spotted a group of men vandalizing a Shul in Toronto this past March, and immediately phoned his dispatcher who informed the police. The three men were arrested at the scene.
“It was just a phone call, I was doing the right thing,” Hidalgo said.
“Even though it’s my name on the award, I think this is an award for all TTC drivers, any driver that I know would have done the same thing.”
Ontario Region Director of the CJC Steve Shulman said Hidalgo’s simple act demonstrated that anyone can be a hero.
