Rockland County: Protest Against New FAA Flight Path Is Tomorrow

flight cover.jpgA grassroots group opposed to an FAA plan to fly more planes over Rockland County (as reported HERE on YW) will rally tomorrow in Pearl River. Quiet Rockland said representatives from the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, the Pascack Valley Mayors Association, citizens groups from Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut, and elected officials, are scheduled to attend the protest. The rally will be from 12:30PM to 2:00PM at Central Avenue and John Street.

The FAA recently approved a plan to radically change how air traffic is handled over the Northeast. They said the redesign would curb delays into major airports in and around New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia, specifically at Newark Liberty, La Guardia and John F. Kennedy International.

Part of its plan calls for sending an average of 300 to 400 planes a day over Rockland as part of a new flight path. Some residents worry that the planes would diminish their quality of life because of noise and air pollution. The flights could arrive within a year.

  1. I dont understand why anyone would be complaining about this. The airplanes will still be high enough that you wont even notice them. Ask the people in ForLawn NJ if they notice the planes and the answer would be no. They are a lot closer to EWR than Monsey and the planes from the west make their right turn there for final approach.

Do the people in Boro Park notice the planes as they fly into LaGuardia?? No!

Rocklandites, there is a politician scamming to get your vote by using scare tactics. Do not fall for it and do not be alarmed. The planes are still relativly high up and you will not notice them.

  2. The above poster #1 is incorrect. Even current military flights at very high altitudes heading in and out of Stewart AFB are rather disruptive to those on the ground. To suggest that one wouldn’t hear commercial traffic without any knowledge of what altitude these flights would pass over Monsey is silly.

  3. Mark Levin,
Thank You for taking the words right out of my mouth. It could very possibly be that these protesters need real day jobs…

  4. where are those yw’ers against this protest — we are in golus, and are not allowed to protest (except when it comes to rabin/sharon/olmert giving up holy land; then we are forbidden to protest)!!!

and we are forbidden to ask president bush to pardon yonatan ben malka pollard — we are in golus

but for an airport protest, we are allowed!

by the way, i think rockland countyites should protest to HAVE an airport NEAR them, so that they dont have to shlep into lga or jfk. but i dont live there.

  5. sammygol post #3.

I do not complain against the the Yeshivas, the Shuls and the housing or any of these things that you find troublesome – additionally, I do not complain against the airplanes.

Whether or not the noise from these planes can be heard on the ground is not relevant at all!

we in Rockland, like other folks in other communities want to travel by air – what right do we have to tell other communities, we want to fly over your neighborhoods, but KEEP OUT OF OURS!?

as air traffic increases, flight patterns need to be re-aligned. this is a BIG non-issue. perhaps post #1 is correct that there is a political scare tactic.
