Boro Park Shomrim received a call for a female being assaulted on 40th Street & 9th Avenue a few moments ago. Upon arrival, the Shomrim member was attacked by one of the perps. Hatzolah is now on the scene and are treating both patients. NYPD 66th PCT has one perp in custody, and are searching for a second perp.

Although this has become somewhat of a better area, it is still on the very outskirts of BP – may even be considered Sunset Park already.
I still remember vivdly how a friend was forced off his bike by some young punks (read: criminal thugs)some 20 years ago on 9th Ave and 39th street near the train station.

i wished Lakewood would react the same way i say the get more cops and have Shomrim!

It’s high time that Lakewood forms a Shomrim patrol (perhaps they have one, I am not aware), but if judges allow criminals to walk free, and arrest the victims instead, they make a mockery of the justice system, and no amount of police or Shomrim will help. The Lakewood police Dept. and some judges there should be investigated by and regulated by the Federal Govt.
Lakewood does in fact have a Shomrim patrol, which was started shortly after the abduction of a Jewish Girl in the parking lot of trim gym, approx. 2 years ago. They are limited in what they can do, due to a lack of cooperation from the Lakewood P.D.
JJLKWD- We have shomrim but they arent the same as BP or Willy…. Its primarily a small group of people without much experience or knowledge on how to combat crime.
I give them an A for effort but they have yet to thwart a crime- Having a few guys walk around with radios doesn’t scare these perps!!!
VinnyD- I personally know of three cases which the Lakewood SHOMRIM caught the thief – mugger (yes in one case the mugger punched a married woman in the face), then called the Lakewood PD. When the police arrived the first thing they said was “are there any Shomrim members on scene Will arrest them”. The Asbury Park Press gave the cops credit for “Apprehending ” the suspect, didn’t mention Shomrim.
I hear the new police chief is a “mentch”.

Actually, I was told from someone very involved with Lakewood Shomrim of many specific instances where crimes were caught and reported to police. I don’t know about now, but at first (under the old police director’s watch)the response time (if at all)to their urgent calls was not great.
vinnyd it just happens to be that the head of shomrim was at the meeting yesterday and was ask to leave before it got underway. obviously the vaad,police or the group that held the meeting are not giving them any credibility.

jjlkwd- The head of shomrim was most likely asked to leave due to the fact that he doesnt represent an organization they thought they need. It might also be due to his personal issues with the LPD-vihamaivin yovin (im not going to get into loshon hora here).
This attack happened in the middle of the day! This must be a wakeup call for all of us.

Lakewood residents think they DO need Shomrim, and the LPD think they don’t. The question is why.

Maybe Meir Kahane was right – we should arm ourselves. If we can’t walk the streets of LKWD & BP, maybe we should get permits to own firearms. This could be done legally, our constitution grants us the right, why not use it?

My husband has been saying exactly these words for years!!
Walking around armed could be pretty dangerous. Suppose someone attacks you and you shoot him first. He could sue you because in this country criminals rule. Your bullet could hit an innocent bystander. We should have Shomrim and they could be legally armed perhaps. But, before anyone starts using guns, make sure you really know how to use them and at home keep them locked up at all times. Everyone has heard horror stories of kids getting hold of a gun at home and shooting a friend or a sibling
TO Greaseball you should also learn how to spell and any way who are you and what does this have to do with your father being a major askan.

Kahana was right when we took action in New York and Montreal in the 70s with self-defence. I was on the scene and know that stopped the bullying cold at the time. The Israeli situation was another chapter.
Kahana’s JDL accomplished no good. Violence has never served Yidden. Look how much protection his “armed Jews” did him, when he was murdered in NYC.
