Irene: Update From Far Rockaway & Nassau [Sunday 2:00PM EST]

B’chasdei Hashem, the worst of Hurricane Irene has mostly passed. There are BH no storm related injuries in the community of which we are aware of.

Many residents are beginning to inquire whether it is safe to return home. Most flooded roads are beginning to clear and within approximately 4 hours most main roads should be passable. The Marine Park and Atlantic Beach Bridges will be open within 4 hours.  We do however wish to stress that numerous side streets are still not passable due to downed wires and trees – please use extreme caution.

Additionally there are several streets in the Rose/Cornaga area that still do not have power.

Based on the information which is being provided to us, from 4 PM and on it should be safe to return to the neighborhood. Please use caution.

Many elderly residents were transported out of their homes urgently and will need assistance returning to homes. If you are aware of any elderly residents who need such assistance, please call Achiezer and all necessary arrangements will be made.

If there is any particular issue which you may have, please call our office and we will do our best to resolve them. 516-791-4444.
