Thousands of yeshivah bochurim throughout Israel have fallen ill in recent weeks with a mysterious virus with symptoms of high fever, stomach pain, cold symptoms and especially severe weakness.
The virus, which began before Chanukah in some yeshivos and others more recently, has hit yeshivos in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, and Elad as well as in Kfar Chabad and other yishuvim. The virus has hit all types of yeshivos – Litvak, Sefardi, and Chassidish as well as Dati Leumi yeshivos on yishuvim and in towns and cities. As could be expected, most of the ill bochurim got tested for COVID when they became ill but they tested negative.
The yeshivah that seems to have been hit the worse is Yeshivas Torah B’Tifarta in Elad, where over 240 bochurim have fallen ill, with many suffering from high fever. About 150 bochurim in Yeshivas Be’er HaTalmud caught the virus and another 150 in Yeshivas Orchos HaTorah. Dati Leumi Yeshivos throughout Israel have been affected including yeshivos in Nahariya, Mitzpeh Ramon, Yerucham, Nir, Mitzpeh, and others.
According to a B’Chadrei Charedim report, hundreds of bochurim in the US in Satmar and Belz yeshivos have also fallen ill with the virus as well as students in Talmudei Torah in Williamsburg, Kiryas Yoel and Monroe.

Why is it mysterious? I heard that a lot of people in Lakewood are getting the flu. Is there evidence that it is not the flu?
Are all those sick vaccinated? I am willing to bet that each and every one who is sick, is also vaccinated.

It’s the flu I also just had it, the mutation going around now is influenza A H3N2 which is pretty severe no need to panic just take Tamiflu right at the beginning of symptoms
They tested them for Covid. Did they check to see if they hat taken the covid shot? Mysterious virus. Hmmmmmm.

I think you should hold off with the betting here because you are running into huge debt with your eyes closed! My family and friends were sick with this “mysterious virus” aka the “old fashioned flu” (anybody still remember that?) and none of us are vaccinated.
Yes – Covid, the flu and this other virus are very rampant in Yeshivos and Chadarim all around the US, and yes – its symptoms are similar to the flu. However since many flu tests are coming back negative it’s called a mysterious virus.

@shlepper I know several people who had it. None of them were vaccinated but they all had COVID previously.
Most described it as either an intense flu or a bad stomach virus.
THE MEDIA WOULD STOOP SO LOW AS TO PICK UP ANY MINISCULE VIRUS STRAIN OFF THE GROUND AND MAKE A MOUNTAIN OUT OF IT…

For the loonies here ranting about vaccines being like numbers tattooed by the Nazis… Chill out. You can get a flu shot which should help prevent you from getting this mysterious virus. It works pretty well. But perhaps you prefer to rant on about some nonsense with shidduchim and whatever. Really not very clear. Frankly if it was you the shidduch was for and you said no to the girl because she had the vaccine, she should probably say thank you Hashem for avoiding that one nut.
Unlike all the posters here I did not attend Medical School and might know less. Is it a confirmed Influenza variant?

I know in my yeshiva many people have flu regardless of whether theyre vaccinated for covid.
