Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Maya Wiley’s bid to become the next mayor of New York City.

The New York Democrat’s nod could give a boost to Wiley, a former lawyer for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has lagged behind Democratic frontrunners Eric Adams, Andrew Yang and Kathryn Garcia.

“We have an option of a candidate who can center people, racial justice, economic justice and climate justice,” Ocasio-Cortez said during her announcement in New York City. “[Wiley] didn’t just come up to run for mayor but has experience and has a lifetime of dedication to this.”

Wiley herself is expected to get a $1 million boost from an outside PAC funded in part by George Soros.

Adams, a former NYPD captain and the current Brooklyn borough president, has been running on a platform of curbing the city’s recent crime surge and wasted no time in criticizing the endorsement.

“Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Maya Wiley want to slash the police department budget and shrink the police force at a time when Black and brown babies are being shot in our streets, hate crimes are terrorizing Asian and Jewish communities, and innocent New Yorkers are being stabbed and shot on their way to work,” he said in a statement. “They are putting slogans and politics in front of public safety and would endanger the lives of New Yorkers.”

Wiley responded to the statement with one of her own, citing some supposed endorsements of his own.

“It’s easy to see why Tucker Carlson, Rudy Giuliani, Fox News and the PBA all keep praising Eric Adams: because he’s using their talking points,” Wiley said. “We must reject the false choice between reform and over-policing. I know we can keep New Yorkers safe without resorting to the same policing tactics that have terrorized black and brown communities.”

  1. I’m from Jersey but if I had the privilege to vote for NYC, this one action of Eric Adams would earn both my vote and that of my husband. It’s about time somebody stood up to that despicable, detestable AOC.

  2. Mr. Adams:

Why are you bothering responding to her? She has proven to be a major ignoramus on everything political. She shoots off her mouth on all sorts of issues, having only once admitted she knows nothing at all about them. Her blabbering has never gone beyond the efforts to push the agenda of narratives, which have yet to have had any overlap with truth. It is one of the wonders of the world that she ended up in a district where the voters are similarly inclined and voted her into office. To call her stupid is being overly generous.

As little as she can understand about national politics, she works at that governmental level. Bartending has not qualified her to know bupkis about city government, and her barking about this is completely meaningless. The media needs to ignore her.

  3. Where is Uncle T
Why don’t we hear his pearls of wisdom.
Did he not eat his Saturday night

    Crowd?
    Where are his cronies?
    “When’s my show”?
    Lights out – baby

  4. This is what Adams said in todays NY Post
Former cop and mayoral frontrunner Eric Adams said Monday he would fight crime in the mold of the late Mayor David Dinkins — and not follow the lead of either Bill de Blasio or Rudy Giuliani.
He’ll fight crime like Dinkins?? 1,927 murders, in NYC, in 1993 Crown Hights Pogrom, Police Commissioner Outa Town Brown. Maybe I’ll vote for Yang. I Can’t wait for the real election and vote for sliwa or Mateo
