President Barack Obama raised $29.1 million for his reelection campaign and a joint fundraising committee of the Democratic Party, the campaign announced Friday morning.
On the president’s Twitter feed, the campaign said 98 percent of contributions were in increments of $250 or less.
That’s obviously quite a bit of money, especially compared to how the Republican candidates are likely to fare as their primary continues, and the rate of Obama’s fundraising is speeding up. As Glenn Thrush wrote last month, though, it doesn’t necessarily live up to the expectation that the president will be running a billion-dollar campaign.
