Miranda Behan to Announce Sullivan County Legislator Candidacy

mirSullivan County businesswoman and community activist Miranda Behan will announce her candidacy for Sullivan County Legislator District 6 on Wednesday May 20, 2015 at The Liberty Diner at 5:00 PM.

The legislative seat which includes parts of Liberty and Hurleyville is currently held by Cora Edwards. Edwards who is not seeking reelection has enthusiastically endorsed Behan’s candidacy.

Running with the campaign slogan “Fighting for Us” Behan said she has “had enough with the way Sullivan County is being run.”

“Sullivan County is being run into the ground and it must stop once and for all. People are being forced out of their homes because of high taxes. Our children are leaving because they see no future here. We have no meaningful economic development or long range plan of action. We need to put an end to protecting self interests and start caring about and delivering for the people of Sullivan County.”

Behan said being elected a legislator should not be a “popularity contest” but instead should be about who can get the job done. “I strongly believe that once the campaign begins and the electorate becomes educated about the candidates, they will be convinced that I am the person that will stand up, fight for, and deliver for the people of Liberty, Hurleyville and all of Sullivan County.”

In endorsing Behan, Legislator Cora Edwards said, “Miranda has a long-standing record of accomplishments as a local business owner and civic leader over the last forty years. She has what it takes to be a good County Legislator, and will be a strong voice for County taxpayers. I encourage all voters in the district to elect Miranda Behan this November 2015.”

Miranda has been married to her husband Pete for 40 years and they have three children, Patricia, Peder Jr., and Colette, as well as granddaughter Hailey Noelle.

Behan has an Associate’s Degree in Travel and Tourism from SCCC. As part of her degree she completed an internship at the Sullivan County Visitors Association.

She is currently active in the Hurleyville Fire Department where she served as President. Behan is also a member of the Town of Fallsburg Lions, where she served as President and Secretary. She is District Diabetes Chair and is an active member of the American Red Cross. Her community involvement also includes being a member of the County Solid Waste Committee.
