“We’re here. We’re going to come and unify and stand together,” said Antoinette Williams a member of the NAACP from Westchester County.
It wasn’t a big crowd that came to stand together Saturday outside of the Sullivan County Court House, perhaps 50 people. But what they lacked in numbers, they made up for in their conviction that an injustice occurred a week ago when a jury declared George Zimmerman not guilty of killing Trayvon Martin.
“George Zimmerman needs to be prosecuted. He needs to be held accountable for his actions,” said Williams.
Monticello was one of an estimated 100 municipalities across the country holding similar, “Justice for Trayvon” vigils organized by the National Action Network. Martin was shot and killed in Florida nearly 18 months ago.
