Ask OU Outreach To Present First Program In The Catskills


ouIn its first event in the Catskills, ASK OU Outreach, together with Congregation Ohev Sholom (“The Woodridge Shul”) will present a special “Shabbos Nachamu Weekend Kashrus Event” on Sunday morning, July 21 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The OU member synagogue is located at 14 Maurice Rose Street in Woodridge. Men and women are invited and admission is free.

As with all ASK OU programs, the event is sponsored by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of New Jersey. Other successful Harry H. Beren ASK OU educational programs have taken place in many communities, such as Toronto, Lakewood, Monsey, Passaic, South Florida, Los Angeles, Flatbush, Boro Park, Kew Gardens Hills, Far Rockaway/Five Towns, Boston and Portland, OR.

Experts from OU Kosher will address halacha and OU kashrus policy. A Q&A session will follow each presentation to allow for community input. The question and answer session will give priority to questions submitted by fax to 212.613.0621 or email [email protected].

Rabbi Yosef Grossman, senior educational rabbinic coordinator and director of kosher education services of OU Kosher, assembled the program and will serve as MC.

“Harry H. Beren ASK OU Outreach is proud to take part in an OU synagogue Congregation Ohev Sholom—The Woodridge Shul’s—celebration of 110 years of daily minyanim,” Rabbi Grossman said. “We look forward to the shul hosting a special ‘Shabbos Nachamu Weekend Kashrus Event’ for the entire Catskills community with what will certainly be a very exciting and stimulating program.”

The morning will open with an “Ask the Rav” session featuring Rav Yisroel Belsky, OU Kosher posek. Rav Belsky will respond to kashrus questions submitted by fax (212.613.0621) or emailed to [email protected].

Rabbi Moshe Elefant, COO and OU Kosher executive rabbinic coordinator, will speak at 11:10 a.m., discussing “The Integrity of Kosher Meat After the Los Angeles Meat Scandal.” Rabbi Nachum Rabinowitz, OU Kosher senior rabbinic coordinator, will give a PowerPoint Presentation at 11:50 a.m. on “Wine and Liquor – Educating the Kosher Consumer.”

A free copy of the twentieth yearly volume of The Daf HaKashrus, the OU’s highly acclaimed newsletter for kashrus professionals, will be distributed.
