Wawarsing: Man Suffers Fatal Injuries After Fall At ‘Bear Cliff’ In Cragsmore

On Saturday, June 29, 2013, the New York State Police at Ellenville responded to a report from Ulster County 911 of a person that had fallen off Bear Cliff in the Cragsmore area of the Town of Wawarsing, NY.

State Police learned that two men had been hiking in the Bear Cliff area when one of the two fell into a 100 foot ravine approximately one mile off Circle Drive in Cragsmore.

After searching the Bear Cliff area, State Police located Cory Studwell, age 23, of Pine Bush NY, deceased, at the bottom of the ravine. Extrication of the deceased took several hours and was completed by numerous members of the Cragsmore Fire Department, Walker Valley Fire and Rescue, Ellenville Fire and Rescue, Ellenville First Aid Squad and the NYSP with the assistance of the NYSP Aviation Unit.
