Rabbi Appel zl graduated from RIETS in 1940; he was the last student to be ordained by Rabbi Dov Revel zl, and he wrote the eulogy for Rabbi Revel in the Yeshiva College student newspaper. He was also ordained by Rabbi Moshe Soloveichik zl, father of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik zl. He is survived by Miriam Appel (widow) and their children Rabbi Shlomo Appel, Dvora Nussbaum, (Rabbi Yakov Appel zl, who passed away in Israel), Zippora Wilon, Rebecca Hoschander, and Esther Kurzman.

i believe rabbi appel z’l was the rov of the adas yeshurin synagogue in kew gardens during the 1960’s and early 1970’0 before he retired.

Rabbi Appel zl wrote 2 vols translating the Kitzur. The 1st vol was on basic everyday halachos; the 2nd vol was on hilchos Shabbos.
They are unique because in addition to the text of the Kitzur he brings modern day shailos on the bottom and maareh m’komos at the end so everything is referenceable.
His petira is a loss for Klal Yisroel and for me personally because that 1st vol. was the very first sefer in English I ever purchased. Probably going back 25 years at least. Yehei zichro boruch.
Yes – that is correct. He published 2 volumes of a translation/elucidation of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, as well as a couple of other seforim. And he was Rav in KG, among other places. I belive Boston, Seattle and NYC.
