Retired Supreme Court President Professor Menachem Alon Z”L was niftar in Yerushalayim at the age of 90. The levaya took place at 4:00PM and kvura in Har Menuchos.
The niftar was the father of former MK Rabbi Binyamin Alon, born in German in 1923, making aliyah to Eretz Yisrael in 1935. He learned in Yeshivas Ateres Tzvi and the Chevron Yeshiva for eight years. He obtained semicha from the chief rabbis, Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Herzog ZT”L and Rav Bentzion Meir Chai Uziel ZT”L. He was a talmid of Rabbi Dr. Yitzchak Breuer and a founder of Kibbutz Tirat Tzvi. He then began studying law, served as a military prosecutor and IDF chief justice.
Justice Alon was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1977 and in 1988 assumed the post as president. He retired in 1993 at the age of 70.

Addtionally, histoiry will record that he was generally regarded as a Talmid Chochom Atzum who in his younger years declined offers to be a RAM at the Ponovitz Yeshiva.
