YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Rebbitzen Esther Yenta Finkel A”H, the wife of Hagaon HaRav Beinish Finkel ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yerushalayim, and father-in-law of Hagaon HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of Mir Yerushalayim. She was 96.
Rebbitzen Finkel was born in Vilna to Hagaon HaRav Shmuel Greinerman ZATZAL, one of the Talmidim of the Chofetz Chaim.
Her uncle was the Chazon Ish, who was her Shadchan – to her husband Rav Beinish, later to be the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir.
Rav Beinish was born in Mir, Belarus, where his father Hagaon HaRav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel was the Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yeshiva. In 1931, he studied under the Chofetz Chaim, and in 1933-34 under the Brisker Rov. After his arrival in Eretz Yisroel, he became close to the Chazon Ish who was his Shadchan to Rebbitzen Esther Yenta Finkel A”H
In 1965 Rav Beinish became Rosh Yeshiva until his Petira in 1990. (The Yeshiva was then led by his son-in-law Rav Nosson Tzvi until he was Niftar in 2011, and was taken over Rav Eleizer Yudel Finkel Shlita, a son of Rav Nosson Tzvi.)
Rebbitzen Finkel served by her husbands side as the “mother” of the Yeshiva.
The Levaya is scheduled for Monday at 12:00PM at the Mir Yerushalayim.

In her time – I remember in the 1980’s- Rebbetzin finkel was accessible by phone to all who needed medical advice.
she was an early source of medical advice before the rise of harav Firrer. Everyone had her number. We all can remember calling her for big and little questions. She knew all the doctors and specialists. An amazing service to Klal Yisroel. May her memory be blessed.
I would love to know more about the Rebbetzin and her accomplishments, also, the names of her daughters. I wish this obituary provided more information about the Rebbetzen, not just about her husband and sons in law.
While I appreciate hearing about the Rebbetzin’s father-in-law, husband, and son-in-law who were all Roshei Yeshiva in Mir (and from whence my son just returned from over one year of learning in Mir in Yerushalayim, an experience which facilitated much growth and Torah learning), I would greatly appreciate hearing more about the Rebbetzin’s life, experiences, and accomplishments, rather than those of her male relatives.
