Baby Chaya Efrat Afik ob”m was niftar this morning, Tuesday, 15 Sivan 5772 after CPR and transport to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where the medical team was compelled to pronounce her dead.
The story began in Cheshvan, at which time YWN-ISRAEL reported that the infant lapsed into a comatose state while in a Bayit Vegan daycare facility. EMTs found her in cardiac arrest and they began resuscitation efforts and she was transported to a hospital in by paramedics who also implemented advanced life support.
Her mother made a passionate appeal to the tzibur at large to recite tehillim on her daughter’s behalf. A few days later, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita instructed the family to add the name Chaya. The family continued tefilos and calls to the tzibur to join in and be mispallel for their child.
Chaya Efrat began breathing on her own about three weeks later and she was transferred to the Alyn Rehabilitation Hospital. The family never lost hope, continuing the vigil at Chaya’s side and continuing tefilos.
EMS was summoned again today, to the family’s Bayit Vegan home, and despite all that medicine has to offer, this time, resuscitation was unsuccessful.
The levaya took place in Yerushalayim at 15:00 in Har Menuchos.
