Dr. Ephraim Shach z”l, 81, a son of Maran HaGaon HaRav Elazar Menachem Mann Shach Zatzal was niftar in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital on Monday morning, 19 Tishrei.
The niftar was born in Kletsk, Russia, and when the family arrived in Eretz Yisrael, they lives in the Knesset neighborhood of Yerushalayim. The niftar attended Chevron Yeshiva until entering the Etzel. The m’sader kedushin at his wedding was HaGaon Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Mir.
The niftar studied in the University of Ottawa, in Canada, as well as at Yeshiva University, in NYC. It was there that he earned a degree in Jewish history. For many years he was associated with Israel’s Ministry of Education as well as the director of the education in the city of Netanya, Jerusalem district head, and other senior positions. He was a close friend to High Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein.
He is survived by his wife Tamar; son Doron; daughter Emily; grandson Omer; a sister, Rebitzen Devorah Berman, the wife of HaGaon HaRav Meir Tzvi Bergman, the rosh yeshiva of Rashbi and a member of the Moetzas Gedolei HaTorah.
The levaya is set for today (19 Tishrei) at 15:00 at Har Menuchos in Yerushalayim.
