A number of days have passed since the tragedy in Uman, the tragic death of Elya Eli on Rosh Hashanah but a levaya in Eretz Yisrael is still not happening. The body of the niftar was brought to the Kiev Airport on Sunday (4 Tishrei) in the hope of placing it on a flight home to Israel, but at the last moment, a bureaucratic snag prevented this from happening.
Shimi Grossman, the Zaka commander in Uman is quoted by Kikar Shabbat as saying “During the entire day Sunday, we were involved in arrangements to fly the niftar home for kvura. We managed to avoid a requested autopsy Baruch Hashem. We managed to get eight of the nine permits required”.
Zaka’s Ukraine commander, Yaakov Zilberman, has been working tirelessly towards getting the paperwork in order to permit a levaya.
AS WE PUBLISH: It appears the final permit has been granted and with Hashem’s help the body will be leaving the Kiev on a 1:00pm flight, but this is not yet confirmed.
